The project has been coined from the Italian word “nido” meaning bird’s nest or kindergarten, so fitting for a project that developed from its mid-twentieth century migrant history in the area. The home was purchased as a desire to return to the original place of origin when the client’s grandparents first migrated from Italy to Australia. This journey has been an exploration between architect and builder to explore the opportunities possible in small living in the city. Critical to the value of small living is the ability to maximise natural light, increase open space, extend views into the distance, maximise natural ventilation and ensure all aspects of modern life have been catered for in the design. The home was originally designed for a young couple and during the journey has developed into a home for six. The design approach was to maintain the existing open space by re-distributing the open area throughout the house. Each level is connected to the outside, via a central courtyard next to kitchen/dining/living and roof deck accessed from all areas within the home.

Eager to give a new spin on familiar things, Souto de Moura drew a round watch and turned the dial, movement, and crown 30 degrees clockwise. The result is an architect’s take on a driver’s watch. While the shape is familiar, the literal twist in the design plays with the mind and changes your perception not only of the watch but also of the way you experience time itself. Always in favor of clean lines, Souto de Moura kept the dial as pure as possible. Stick hands offer a bold contrast against the color of the dial, clearly indicating the exact time. As 12 is the reference, Souto Moura mixed an Arabic numeral with a bold hour marker, automatically grabbing your eye’s attention and guiding you through the familiar act of telling time, even forgetting that you are doing so at a 30-degree different angle. Matching markers at the three, six, and nine o’clock positions bring symmetry, aided by the more modest dashes indicating the remaining hours and the dots in between them telling the minutes.

“I want the watch to be and feel as slim as possible.” – Eduardo Souto de Moura

Completely aware that his creations have an actual purpose beyond being beautiful, the Lebond Souto Moura is fitted with a date function. This allows the watch to be an even more intricate part of its owner’s day and offers another way to interact with the timepiece. In order to fulfill Souto de Moura’s desire to make the watch as slim as possible, a 38.5mm large case was crafted from grade 5 titanium. With the strap attached underneath it, the case thickness is a mere 7.6mm, and the total weight of the watch is only 46grams. The timepiece includes a domed sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, allowing a clear view of the dial. The micro-sandblasted finish of the case is protected by an anti-fingerprint coating, ensuring that it continues to look pristine for longer.

The ticking heart of the Lebond Souto Moura is an ETA 2892-A2. This automatic, Swiss-made caliber runs at 28,800 VpH/4Hz and offers a generous power reserve of 50 hours. It is decorated with blued screws, Geneva stripes, and circular graining. The movement can be admired through a sapphire insert in the titanium grade 5 caseback, which is adorned with Eduardo Souto de Moura’s autograph. Each of the Lebond Souto Mouras is individually numbered.

“I arrived at the office feeling bored, but when I saw the latest pictures of the watch, I became excited.” – Eduardo Souto de Moura

Being involved every step of the way, Souto de Moura made this Lebond his own, adding another exciting chapter to his impressive career. The watch is available in two different versions, both of which share the same 38.5mm-diameter titanium grade 5 case and ETA 2892-A2 movement. The ‘Original Edition’ showcases a matte beige dial paired with a navy blue Top Nappa leather strap. The ‘Dark Edition’ presents a matte grey dial complemented by a matching black Top Nappa leather strap. As wearing comfort matters as much to architects like Souto de Moura as it does to Lebond, this timepiece is also fitted with a custom deployment clasp. Made from titanium grade 5 as well, this clasp secures the watch safely and comfortably around your wrist in a style matching the watch itself.

EDUARDO SOUTO DE MOURA

Born in 1952 in Porto, Portugal, Eduardo Souto de Moura is a prestigious architect known for combining the clean lines of abstract minimalism with the use of local materials and building techniques.

Due to his architecture that appears effortless, serene and simple, and for the care and poetry that permeates each project, Eduardo Souto de Moura received the Pritzker Prize in 2011. Often described as a “Miesian Architect”, the Pritzker jury acknowledged this influence with the words, “he has the confidence to use stone that is a thousand years old, or to take inspiration from a modern detail by Mies van der Rohe”.

Souto de Moura’s collaboration with Lebond Watches has resulted in the exclusive Lebond Souto Moura watch edition.

There is a long standing tradition for the small retreat in architecture. Historically this kind of building has served as a shelter whilst doing other recreational activities such as hiking, hunting or fishing. Since the days of Thoreau's Walden however, the small retreat, or bolthole, has also been a goal in itself. Typically to escape the stresses of everyday life. For the modern city dweller this may well be a permanent urge. This small cabin in Nordmarka, Oslo's immediate wilderness, fits well within the tradition of boltholes. It contains the most necessary features, but not much more. It is easy to keep clean and easy to maintain. It is light and open, but also intimate and cosy. Beyond the cosiness and the strictly practical, the effort has been mainly focused on the qualities of the site, including a serious commitment to the main view with sunset, woods and lakes. Accessible within an hour’s skiing distance from the city center, this route is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, making it a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The cabin’s design seeks to preserve the natural terrain and characteristics of the site. The construction is uncomplicated and pragmatic, employing robust and organic materials that can endure for centuries. The exterior cladding is made of pine wood that has undergone a Norwegian technique known as “Møre Royal,” whereby the wood is vacuum-cooked in oil to enhance its weather resistance and minimize maintenance requirements.

At the beginning of this story, we have to go back to 1933 year in Matosinhos, Portugal, where Alvaro Siza was born. He's one of a kind architect and his works still inspire and give creativity to the younger generation of creative people. Álvaro Siza Vieira is the greatest living Portuguese architect -perhaps the finest the country has ever produced- whose works over the years have proven to be amongst the most coherent and complete of all architectural works this century.Alvaro Siza Vieira is considered to be one of the greatest architects of his generation. During his life he collected various prestigious awards like the Pritzker award and many others. His sculptural works have been described as "Poetic Modernism".

What is the bond between Alvaro Siza and Lebond Watches ?

At 89 years old, his mastermind created a unique piece of art, exceptional piece of design and a brand new vision. Not everything has to be round and in the right position. He played with his imagination while creating Lebond Siza mechanical automatic watches. He showed us that space and time move the architecture and everything else around us.

The inspiration for the watch came from the Leça swimming pool, which Siza designed in 1966 at the age of 28. The watch case shape was based on the square main pool, and the watch hands were adapted from the minimal restroom signs that Siza used on numerous projects. The watch is made of titanium grade 5, which was chosen by Siza for its lightness and beautiful micro-sanded matte finish. The strap is crafted from fkm black rubber and comes with a deployant clasp for comfort and durability. The watch case back displays the exposed movement, while the signature "A. Siza" floats on the sapphire crystal, making this watch a timeless piece.

I strongly believe that Lebond Siza avant-garde, opulent watches will leave a lasting impression in the design world. If I have missed something to say or you want to know more, please visit Lebond Siza Watches

In the historic centre of Vila Nova de Foz Coa, the project focuses on the rehabilitation of a devolved building built at the end of the 19th century, transforming it into a single-family dwelling, where historical architectural features are adapted to a contemporary housing reality. The southern elevation of the building has suffered over the years, depending on the needs of the former owners, different alterations and associated constructions, with no architectural link with the original construction. However, slate thresholds are highlighted as the main coating applied on shale masonry structure. It is on the basis of these two notable elements (slate and shale) that it is proposed to reconfigure space and elevation, still responding to the traditionalmethod of construction, which seeks to highlight the backelevation, directed to the south, and to assume it as the new main elevation of the dwelling. Without overlooking the historical value of the remaining stretches, the existing elements of granite sawmills and masonry are recovered on the northern and spring stretches, and new fans are opened south, leaving the ruins in shale, outer walls and the colours of nature uncovered for those living inside the house. At the constructive level, traditional solutions have been chosen, with the selection of materials of natural origin, such as lime towing for the façades, wooden frames, wooden flooring, insulation with agglomerated cork on floors and application of slate thresholds. At programmatic level, the dwelling is organised on two levels, the main access being made by the southern elevation at level of floor 0. It is on this floor that the whole social area is distributed in a connected space, bounded only by the pre-existing inner walls, in shale masonry. On floor 1, the three-quarters are organised in a game of symmetrics and rotations, where the meeting point culminates in a wide space for the natural landscape typical of the region.

Quality paired with effortlessness, sophisticated architecture with a feel-good factor, and, most importantly, creating space to “be genuine”. Felix Pöttinger Design Studio refers to the Restaurants’ surroundings by using local materials and re-interpreting the traditional chalet style found in the southern alps with a modernist touch. Warm, honest materials meet clear lines and invite you to linger and enjoy. The owners‘ appreciation for food, its origin, and producers shall reflect in the tonality of the restaurants interior. The big community table in the center of the restaurant invites guests to meet and mingle.
